New site under construction
Posted on May 25, 2005
This week I started development of a new site targeted to help wider adoption of sIFR. sIFRFonts.com will be a resource providing sIFR font files for free fonts found on the web. The plan is to seed the site with an initial set of fonts found on other sites like FontFreak.com, providing only free fonts with their respective files in the .swf file needed. sIFR is a cool JavaScript and flash technology that replaces fonts on webpages using font data stored in swf files. I'm using it on the new Ocean Minded site and of course sIFRFonts.com.
Disappointing Album Releases
Posted on May 16, 2005
Dave Matthews Band's new CD "Stand Up" is pretty "blah." It's ok as background music for a party, but it has a few songs that stand out, but it really was disappointing. I've been a huge DMB fan in the past, but I just haven't been overly impressed with their music since becoming overly popular, it seems to be getting more and more bland.
Likewise NIN's new album "With Teeth" would have been more aptly named "With Dentures." It's painfully uninsinpring and hard to listen to. Trent lost his edge on this album, but not for the sake of better music. I bought it for the 5.1 DVD version of the album and even that's a joke. There's very little of the back channels in the mix.
One thing each album had going for it was the single disc CD/DVD dual sided bit. I did like that.

Patio cover progress

It's nearly done. Pictures of the progress are here. I need to do some sanding, touch-up painting, and I'm going to add about 4 or 5 more 2"x2" shade bars on the end of it so the 2"x6"'s don't look like they stick out too far. I'm sporting a nice sunburn from painting yesterday, but it's well worth it.
